Including extensive help, uninstall and some language files (not Thai), MWSnap doesn't come close to a megabyte in size. You can save or print the screen shot, not much more. There are rudimentary photo-editing tools, basic frame-making, and some additions such as putting a mouse cursor in the picture.

Once you take the screenshot, it pops up in the window of MWSnap for you to look at, maybe work on, and save. Shift-Ctrl-A (a-for-area) lets you define the part of the screen you want to photograph by dragging the mouse from imaginary corner to corner of the photo.

You can reset the hot-keys if you wish, but at the start, Shift-Ctrl-D takes a photo of the desktop, Shift-Ctrl-W of the current window under your cursor.

When it starts up, it sets a series of hot-key combinations so you don't have much clicking and mousing to do once you get used to it. The program does pretty well everything I want with one major exception, for which see below. Freeware download sites such as WebAttack and NoNags give it their maximum rating, and quite rightly. MWSnap 3.0 is stable, works on all Windows versions, and does exactly what the author and, apparently almost all users want. And it's amazing how much they have improved, while the latest, spiffy Windows 7 hasn't improved a whit. This silliness did not persist for long (except at Microsoft headquarters), as programmers worldwide figured out much better ways to take screenshots. So, if you want a picture of your screen, press PrintScreen, then paste the result into a photo program such as Windows Paint, where you can print or save it for future action. Press the key, and Windows takes a picture of the entire screen, and puts it into the equally 20th-century clipboard. So while keyboard makers still label it PrintScreen, it should say PhotoScreen. And Microsoft engineers found that for some technical reasons - and laziness - they couldn't do that any more. Under the non-graphical operating systems such as DOS, this key performed an astounding task - it sent what was on the screen to the printer. After you take a screenshot with MWSnap, you can apply some basic photo-editing effects before you either save or print it.
